Our Story

PNP is a program of GEANCO Foundation. In April 2014, we started an anemia monitoring and intervention program for pregnant women. Through the anemia program, we partnered with healthcare organisations to identify and treat anemia cases in pregnant women. In the course of that program we had first hand experience how the most vulnerable women existed outside the formal channels of hospital systems. These women preferred to get care from trusted community based traditional birthing centers. We stepped into this fringe space by transforming selected birthing centers and bringing in nurses to improve the quality of care given at these birthing centers. This led to the development of a network of 6 modular family health centers serving over 9,000 families.

Primecare Nursing Practice (PNP) Program is a continuation of the success of the modular clinics. The PNP Program scales the success of the modular clinic network and leverages the value of nurse-led clinics who are embedded directly in underserved communities to deliver quality and affordable healthcare.

Why We Exist

Our work addresses a critical socioeconomic crisis. According to World Bank data, 64% of the Nigerian population lives below $3.70 a day, and 91% lives on less than $7 a day. For this overwhelming majority, access to affordable, quality
healthcare is a mirage.

Registered Nurses and Midwives are the frontline backbone of community health.

However, many lack the advanced clinical training, organizational acumen, and infrastructure required to scale their impact. Our PNP Program bridges this gap by transforming nurse-owned clinics into high impact, self sustaining medical hubs.

Program Mission

We support nurses to deliver quality, affordable and sustainable
healthcare services to underserved communities

Program Vision

Healthy families in every community.

Program Core Strategy: Empowering Nurse-Led Clinics

We believe that improving healthcare in low resource settings requires sustainable, community rooted solutions. Registered Nurses and Midwives are uniquely positioned to deliver reliable, continuous care that enhances patient outcomes, drives efficiency, and builds local trust.

By investing in these front line leaders, our project harnesses and expands their existing capacity. We take high potential, nurse owned clinics and turn them into resilient, high impact medical hubs. Through a strategic combination of advanced clinical education, organizational management training, and essential equipment upgrades, we ensure these clinics become both medically excellent and financially self sustaining.
